The Time for Cellulite Has Come to an End

Cellulite Treatment San Francisco CAReally, there is no good time for cellulite. This is not a condition that “runs its course” and then ends. It is a sticky situation that can linger for many years. Because cellulite inhibits a woman’s confidence in what she wears, or how she looks when wearing shorts and skirts, it’s a topic we need to discuss.

We know that, by and large, women have long wished for a way to reduce the appearance of cellulite. They have been handed far too many remedies to list here. No need to, because many of them are based on misconceptions about what cellulite is and why it exists. We’ll share with you what we do know about cellulite, and what progress has been made in banishing the bulge.

  • We see the evidence of cellulite on the skin, but the problem lies beneath the surface. Skin dimpling occurs when fat tissue pushes against connective bands called septae.
  • Cellulite relates to fat tissue, but it isn’t a fat problem. Women of all shapes and sizes struggle with this issue. Losing weight might help. Conversely, losing weight might also make cellulite look more prominent. Frustrating, we know. This is not a reason to not eat well and exercise often. Over time, muscle-toning can have a positive effect on cellulite.
  • Liposuction will not help cellulite. Because fat isn’t the problem, there is very little value in turning to liposuction for smoother skin.
  • Cellulite is largely a woman’s problem to manage. Men have septae, too, but the pattern of tissue is denser in male anatomy; a crisscross. These bands travel in a vertical pattern through a woman’s body, providing more space through which fat tissue can push.

There is Hope in New Technologies

In the past decade, we have seen an enormous forward-movement in the area of aesthetic medicine. Topical solutions for cellulite have been formulated, though dramatic results have not been seen from such products. Additionally, radiofrequency and light-based technologies have been developed. In our San Francisco med spa, we harness these modalities, as well as the power of gentle vacuum action, in the VelaShape device.
