How to Get Rid of your ‘selfie chin’
- Posted on: Jul 30 2017
When it comes to managing your online presence, it’s natural to want to put your best face forward. The ‘selfie chin,’ otherwise known as a double chin, seems to take center stage with our vacation and day-to-day selfies alike. Kybella is an FDA approved nonsurgical option to get rid of that extra roll of fat under your chin. The Kybella shot is an alternative to liposuction, which is used to address a double chin.
Kybella works by using deoxycholic acid, a substance that your body naturally produces. It aids in absorbing and destroying fat cells. Kybella treatments vary from patient to patient. For instance, you may need a total of 12-20 injections administered during treatment. Two to three to six sessions over the course of several months may be necessary. The visit itself is quick, and the treatment usually takes only 15 minutes.
You will begin to notice a change after two to four treatments. It is important to understand that Kybella does not tighten the skin. Rather, it melts fat. After your treatments are completed, the results can last several years.
As with any surgical or nonsurgical treatment, be sure you are aware of any potential side effects or risks. The most common side effects a that patients experience with Kybella are numbness, swelling, pain, and bruising. These are a normal part of the healing process and will dissipate over time. In rare cases, the marginal mandibular nerve can be damaged, resulting in an off balance smile. Overtime, the nerve will heal, and you will regain control of your facial expressions.
Studies are underway to determine if Kybella can be used to zap fat cells in other regions of the body. Unfortunately, it can’t get rid of love handles or excess belly fat. At present, it is strictly permitted to be used underneath the chin and neck. Because Kybella is a cosmetic procedure, it is unlikely that insurance will cover it.
