Injectable fillers San Francisco, CA

More (surprising) ways that fillers can improve your appearance

Injectable fillers San Francisco, CAInjectable fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm, are quickly becoming some of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments, and our patients report being amazed at the way they can turn back the hands of time. If you’re used to having your injectable treatments to help fill hollows under your eyes or redefine your cheeks or jawline, you might be surprised to learn about some of the newest uses for your favorite procedure.

For chin wrinkles

Aging and sun damage can take their toll on the chin. The muscles in the chin also contribute to the wrinkly appearance of the bottom of the face, so Botox is a popular treatment for relaxing those muscles to help smooth out the chin. Horizontal lines in the mid-chin area, as well as wrinkles that extend up to the lip line, can be treated with fillers. Together, these popular injectables can smooth the creases and give the chin a stronger profile.

For thighs dents

Fillers can be used to treat dimples and divots on the backs of the thighs, often caused by cellulite and aging skin.  The filler can help lift the skin to improve the appearance of some superficial sagging and cellulite.

For hollow temples

As we age, fat is lost from the temples, causing them to be hollow and sunken. Fillers, such as Sculptra Aesthetic and Juvederm Voluma, can be used to replace that lost volume and give the face a more youthful contour.

For wrinkles on the elbows

Fillers can help the elbows appear smoother by filling out some of the lines and crevices that all that elbow bending can cause.

For earlobe creases

Maybe you don’t think much about your earlobes in your battle against aging, but they can look droopy, thin and wrinkly. Fillers can give back a more natural and youthful shape to the earlobes, as well as help prevent further stretching and widening of pierced earring holes.

For knee wrinkles

Injecting the fine, crepey lines on the knees with Sculptra Aesthetic can help smooth and soften them.

Giving your skin a more youthful appearance

botoxOur patients come to us for procedures and treatments because they want results, and we work hard to deliver. We know you’re also interested in results that come with little pain and minimal down time. That’s why non-surgical procedures continue to grow in popularity.

Lots of things hurt your skin. We can help

The skin is designed to protect you from sun, wind, cold and heat. But over time, the elements (and time itself) show up as wrinkles, lines, and spots. Damaged skin symptoms also create the appearance of aged skin, and you might even appear older than you are. But these days, we can repair many of the signs of skin aging.

Unlike surgical procedures, skin “treatments” are considered superficial, but they can provide noticeable results more quickly and require less pain and recovery time. Here are two of the most popular and effective non-surgical treatments that can virtually update your skin:

Injections

  • Botox

By paralyzing the muscle groups responsible for some of your facial expressions, Botox can smooth out many of the wrinkles in your face. Numbing the muscle allows your skin also to relax, which diminishes the appearance of the wrinkles in the effected areas. Done properly, the results look natural and last for several months. The Botox injection procedure typically takes just a few minutes and shouldn’t prevent you from immediately returning to your normal activities. You may experience some redness, swelling and bruising at the injection site, but that should resolve in a few days.

  • Fillers

As we age, our skin is affected by various factors, including gravity. Wrinkles and saggy skin appear because our skin no longer has the youthful elasticity that allows it to “bounce back.” Injectable fillers are designed to correct the appearance of loose, crinkly skin by adding volume in areas where it has been lost. Some of our most popular fillers brands are composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the body. Hyaluronic-based fillers, such as Juvederm and Restylane, can also stimulate your collagen production.

Radiesse Tells Your Smile Lines They’re Not Funny

RadiesseAging isn’t for the meek; it’s an unrelenting march, day after day. Your collagen supply drops year by year and with it your skin’s support mechanism. Volume leaves your cheeks. Your skin loses it elasticity and allows for wrinkles to find a home. Bogus.

But you don’t have to take aging as a matter of fact. At Aura Skin Spa, we help our patients fight back with Radiesse, the long-lasting, dual action volumizing filler.

While you may not have heard of Radiesse in the galaxy of popular fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, and Perlane, we love Radiesse at Aura, particularly when addressing smile and marionette lines.

How does Radiesse work?

While fillers such as Juverderm are hyaluronic acid fillers (where hyaluronic acid binds with water molecules to plump and hydrate the skin), Radiesse is different. It is comprised of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel carrier.

Radiesse works two ways. First the aqueous gel instantly fills the area when injected beneath a crease or wrinkle. The body starts to absorb the gel, but the CaHA microspheres then provide structural support for the skin. But that’s only the first part of its function. The hydroxylapatite microspheres then stimulate the body to produce new collagen in the injection area. This occurs in the weeks following your injection and the results last for a year or more. So, while most fillers lose their function once the body absorbs them, Radiesse, because it initiates the building of new collagen, continues to show its effects even after the microspheres and gel are absorbed. That’s why we’re big Radiesse fans at Aura.

What does it work on?

Radiesse is a volumizing filler, meaning it is effective for replacing volume and for deeper wrinkles such as those around the mouth. Here are the areas that we treat with Radiesse.

Smile lines — Also known as nasolabial folds, these lines run from the nose down to the corners of the mouth. They are the result of decreasing facial volume and skin elasticity that comes with aging.

Marionette lines — While these lines may be necessary for ventriloquist dummies, they’re not good for you. These lines run straight downward from the corners of the mouth and can make you look unhappy. These also result from decreasing volume.

Corners of the mouth — Also known as oral commissures, the corners of your mouth can turn downward as you age and lose volume below the mouth. This phenomenon can make you look as if you’re frowning or mad.

Pre-jowl area — The areas on each side of the chin, the pre-jowl sulcus, can hollow out due to sagging in other areas of the lower face.

Chin wrinkles — Chin wrinkles form horizontally across the chin and can be distracting to a person talking to you. Volume loss in the lower face again is the culprit.

Fill with care
The best use of fillers is aesthetic and subtle; a little at first and more after results are evaluated. We also use the type of fillers that can offer the best results for certain areas and problems.

Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm – proven products we know and trust
Restylane is hyaluronic acid filler that plumps the skin by binding with natural stores of water in the area. Restylane injections do the best work smoothing:

  • Wrinkles around the mouth
  • Ceases around lips
  • Hollows under and around the eyes

Perlane is also hyaluronic acid filler that differs from Restylane primarily in its larger particles, which are injected deeper into the skin to treat deeper wrinkles.

Juvederm, also made from hyaluronic acid, is typically used to improve the appearance of wrinkles located:

  • Around the mouth
  • Around the nose
  • On the forehead.

Radiesse is made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. It’s used to plump up deeper wrinkles around the nose and mouth, but over about three months time, the microspheres stimulate the skin’s natural collagen growth for longer-lasting results.

Lip, lip, hooray!

lip augmentation Maybe your lips have always been a little thinner than you’d like them to be. Or maybe over the years you’ve noticed that your lips just don’t have the oomph that they did when you were younger. Whatever the reason, you don’t have to put up with lack-luster lips.

If you’ve never had lip injections, you probably have questions

You can start by talking to us about lip augmentation and the products we use every day for our patients. It’s important to tell us about your concerns and your expectations. We can talk about possible pain and side effects, and show you photos of results our patients have experienced.

The products

We use injectable hyaluronic acids, such as Restylane Silk, Bolotero and Juvederm, which are the industry standard for lip injections. It’s also the only type of filler approved by the FDA. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the skin, and along with being the molecule used in many fillers, it’s also an effective ingredient used in hydrating skin-care products. That’s because it plumps up the skin by capturing and holding onto water. Hyaluronic acid is well tolerated by our patients, and over time, dissolves on its own.

The procedure

Our lips have a lot of nerves in them, so they can be sensitive to being poked and prodded. We use topical numbing creams and, sometimes, shots, so that you can be as comfortable as possible. In addition, many of the hyaluronic acid injectable formulas include numbing lidocaine. Most of our patients describe the pain as mild to moderate, and it can last for a few days.

Natural results are possible

We’ve all seen lip injections that draw our attention for all the wrong reasons. In fact, done properly, lip enhancement won’t draw any attention at all. People should only notice that you look better in some way they can’t exactly put their finger on. We understand the importance of achieving nuanced and aesthetics results, and strive to get the proportions right for each individual.

Find more ways that fillers can be your go-to solution

You might think fillers are just for plumping up and improving the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin. And it’s true. Fillers do a great job replacing age-related volume loss in your face. And it’s true, Restylane® and Perlane® fillers can be injected anywhere in the face to fill wrinkles, lines, folds and scars. But what about those of us who have other facial cosmetic concerns we want to correct non-surgically? Look no further than fillers.

Lips a little thin or lopsided?

For lips, Restylane® is the preferred filler.

  • Restylane products are hyaluronic acid based fillers.
  • Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body to firm, plump, smooth and provide moisture to the skin, as well as lubricating joints.
  • Restylane can create volume in the lips, either to plump them up or create symmetry

dermal fillersRestylane Silk is the latest FDA-approved filler specifically designed for subtle lip enhancement and improvement.

The hyaluronic acid particles formulated for Restylane Silk are smaller than those in other fillers, so the product can even better and more naturally plump the fine lines that form around the lip border.

Re-contouring and defining facial features

Today’s fillers and filler techniques are popular with older and younger patients alike. And the growing number of younger patients is due to all the ways that fillers can improve appearance non-surgically. Younger patients aren’t yet looking to restore what was lost, but to re-contour and define their features and achieve better overall balance. And it’s not unusual for a person in their 20s to have already developed deep lines around their mouths that can be smoothed and restored with fillers. Subtle improvements can restore confidence at any age.

More enhancing effects from fillers

Many concerns that people have about their facial appearance have nothing to do with age or gender. Fillers can help fix:

  • Under-eye hallows (they can be genetic)
  • A nose bump (rather than undergoing surgical rhinoplastly)
  • An undefined nose bridge
  • Undefined chin
  • Undefined lips
  • Uneven lips
  • Undefined cheekbones
